Maymester Semester
What is Maymester?
Running from April 29 through June 3, Maymester is a mini semester format of just 4 sessions. The perfect opportunity for prospective students to sample a course or a new media. Current students will find session length a wonderful solution for bridging the gap from spring to fall semesters. Whatever your need, we hope to see you this summer at Maymester!

Music and Dance Course descriptions
Music in Me Preschool Group- Glenna Hess
Tuesdays 10 - 10:45 am
(Children ages 3 - 5)
A small group session (45 minutes a week) that will develop a young child's musical expression through play and "doing.” Based on the findings of Montessori, Orff, and Kodaly, children will experience developmentally appropriate music activities through singing, movement, and playing instruments all leading to "school readiness."
Swing Dance- Nina Surbaugh
Mondays 7 - 8 pm
Similar to the “Jitterbug,” Swing is a rhythm dance that is perfect for beginners! We will be learning triple time East Coast Swing, which is the dance most commonly used at social events such as weddings. Bring a partner or a friend and join the fun!
Art Course descriptions
Acrylic or Oil Painting- Makara Sernett
Tuesdays 2 - 4 pm
Learn to paint from experience at your own pace.
You choose between acrylic or water soluble oil paints.
This is a mixed levels class, which means all levels are welcome!
This course is project-based for each individual to meet students at their level to encourage personalized growth.
Courses will run for 1 hour 45 minutes with 15 minutes at the end for clean up and final questions.
Mixed Media- Makara Sernett
Tuesdays 4 - 6 pm
Can't decide on which art medium to try? Why not try a bunch and choose the best fit?
We will explore a variety of mediums throughout the course through weekly small projects.
At the end of the course, you will create one project that combines two or more of the mediums you have practiced.
Courses will run for 1 hour 45 minutes with 15 minutes at the end for clean up and final questions.
Intro to Drawing- Makara Sernett
Tuesdays 6 - 8 pm
Students will learn the basics of drawing fundamentals in this course by drawing from real life observations of still life setups.
We will start from the very beginning, so everyone is encouraged to try!
Though this is labeled for beginners, all levels are welcome. Intermediate or advanced students will work on different projects while beginners go through fundamentals.
Courses will run for 1 hour 45 minutes with 15 minutes at the end for clean up and final questions.
Watercolor Painting- Sarah Lambert
Tuesdays 6 - 8 pm
Students will explore the world of watercolor in a 2 hour group session. Perfect for beginners and experienced students alike. Each week students will learn new techniques for watercolor painting, and by the end of the course, they will have a variety of paintings to display. Students will learn by exploration and play as well as step-by-step instruction by the teacher.
Woodburning- Sarah Lambert
Mondays 6 - 8 pm
In this course, you will learn the art of pyrography, also known as woodburning! Woodburning is a very relaxing, slow-paced art form. I will teach you step-by-step how to create your own beautiful piece of woodburned art that you get to take with you. We will cover topics such as drawing and shading techniques with a woodburning tool, how to transfer images to wood, adding color using various mediums, how to seal a finished piece, and how to do so safely!
What does Maymester cost?
Because Maymester is a shortened semester of just 4 sessions, the cost is a little different from a traditional semester. There is no registration fee for Maymester! Art courses may incur a studio supply fee.
