Broadway's Mission Sermon Series

Twelve years ago Broadway adopted this mission statement:

We seek to learn, live and proclaim Christ’s message of grace, hope and love through worship, fellowship and service.

Sundays, February 12-26 will feature sermons unpacking the three key themes embedded in this statement, and, I would add, embedded in the DNA of Broadway. Every time we have asked questions about strategy or have tried to discern God’s direction, these three themes have come up. Beginning with the fact that the purpose of any church is to be the embodiment of God’s kingdom on earth, we can state the three themes this way:

  1. Seek the Kingdom (February 12 sermon by Chris Caldwell)

    1. Key mission statement words: LEARN and WORSHIP.

    2. Theme: We must first of all be a God-centered church, with worship and spiritual formation empowering us as people of faith.

  2. Live the Kingdom (February 19 sermon by Chris Caldwell)

    1. Key mission statement words: LIVE and FELLOWSHIP.

    2. Theme: We must embody God’s kingdom at 4000 Brownsboro Road in the ways we care for each other and have fellowship together.

  3. Share the Kingdom (February 26 sermon by Susan Reed)

    1. Key mission statement words: PROCLAIM and SERVICE

    2. Theme: We must follow the Spirit beyond 4000 Brownsboro Road to share God’s kingdom with others in service and witness.

Whether the topic is the mission of the church, or your personal mission, I believe this series will shed light on what it means to have a vibrant, balanced, and living faith!
